Description:

Central Asia, Amlash culture, ca. 1400 to 1000 BCE. A mold-formed askos modeled after a standing bull with four stocky feet, a cylindrical body with several textured ribs, a wide-spouted tail, a small loop handle centered on the back, and a petite pouring spout. The spout takes the form of an abstract bull head which displays incised eyes, a tapering mouth, a stocky neck, and a pair of curved horns. The body is decorated with beige-painted curvilinear bands, with dark and light pigment striations along the horns and head, and a spotted design in front of the chest, all atop a pale-orange ground. Size: 5.375" L x 2" W x 5.375" H (13.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 13.7 cm).
