Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Bactrian Empire, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A fabulous necklace comprised of dozens of hand-carved carnelian, banded agate, and rock crystal beads, each exhibiting small striations in horizontal, zigzag, or curvilinear motifs. The etched grooves are filled in with white pigment so as to bring forth the incised details against the stones. The central pendant is an ovoid agate with intersecting lines on the obverse face and concentric circles on the verso, and the termini are capped with a modern oxidized silver loop and shepherd's hook combo. A gorgeous and wearable example of ancient fashion! Size (necklace): 24.75" L (62.9 cm); size (largest bead): 0.75" W (1.9 cm).
