Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Late Babylonian period, ca. 500 to 350 BCE. This oval seal features a convex face and a conical tip pierced for suspension, with grooves etched into the loop area. The seal's motif depicts a lunar crescent on a pole supported by a base, adorned with a pair of streamers extending from both the top of the pole and the base of the crescent. Crafted from lapis lazuli, a highly prized material both in antiquity and today, the seal is a rarity. Accompanying the piece is a typewritten description signed in blue ink by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert (1926-2011), a renowned Assyriologist and Fellow of the British Academy, celebrated for his expertise in Near Eastern archaeology.
