Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer / Babylon, ca. 2000 to 1500 BCE. This intriguing stone stamp seal features a triangular cross-section and a central perforation. Each of its three faces is engraved: two depict standing winged quadrupeds - one with a crescent beneath the head. The third face is a standing quadruped with a distinctly feline appearance, its tail arched over its body. Accompanying this artifact is a typewritten description signed in blue ink by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert (1926-2011), a renowned Assyriologist and Fellow of the British Academy, celebrated for his contributions to Near Eastern archaeology.
