Description:

Pre-Columbian, Aztec Empire, Mexico, ca. 1500 CE. High karat gold adornment depicting an arrow on one end, shield in center and flying jaguar on opposite end. This symbol of Aztec power is on the outer cover of the most important book on the Aztec culture! Of note: Not much gold of the Aztec Empire has come down to us, as the Spanish Conquistadores melted it all down; in fact, the only gold that did survive ended up in the Vienna Museum, the Medicci Collection, in Florence and in the Vatican Museum. 5"L x 1"W. Custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-Hirsch Collection, Germany.
