Description:

Greece, Archaic period, ca. 6th century BCE. A cast bronze attachment in the form of a standing horse. A large loop for suspension rises from the back of the horse. It stands on a base made of four spirals of bronze, with a small bird perched on the outer edge of each spiral. During the Archaic period, much of the artwork of the depicted scenes of gods that would later become codified as the official Greek state religion. Horses, chariots, and warriors were the most commonly depicted figures in Archaic period art. This horse, standing on its platform, instantly calls to mind the story of the Trojan Horse.
