Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe with a small circular foot, a piriform body with a lightly-corseted neck, a trefoil-style pouring spout, and a slender handle arching between rim and shoulder. A wide red-figure panel depicts an elegant left-facing 'lady of fashion' head with almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, curled bangs, and a kekryphalos hairstyle, all framed within partial palmettes and a top register of cresting waves. The vessel - save for the underside of the foot - is covered with a lustrous jet-black glaze. Size: 2.375" W x 3.75" H (6 cm x 9.5 cm).
