Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. An elegant red-figure plate on a raised foot featuring a "Lady of Fashion" wearing a saccos (head scarf) with pearl strands and hair pins, a drop earring, and a pearl necklace. Her profile head is encircled by a stylized wave motif that is bordered by 2 bands of white leaves with tongues around the edge of the rim. In addition to the skillfully rendered red-figure painting, the artist added lovely white fugitive painted details. What's more, the black decoration has gained nice iridescence Size: 10" Diameter x 2.2" H (25.4 cm x 5.6 cm)

  • Condition: Professionally repaired and restored with repainting over break lines; all done expertly and very difficult to notice. A few small chips to rim and edge of foot as well as some minor areas of light surface wear, but otherwise, very nice presentation with good imagery and detail.
