Description:

Oceania, Australia, Aboriginal peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden boomerang with a slightly curved profile and zoomorphic motifs. The front side is etched with dotted markings that create a textured sky on the upper portion. An incised line outlines the smooth ground and simple spiked foliage. An emu and a kangaroo in profile are situated along this plane, facing each other. The verso is free of carvings, and the wood has a nice matte sheen. The gently curved body terminates with rounded tips, and both sides exhibit a slightly convex profile. Aboriginals made tools and airfoil weaponry from a variety of different woods known for their high density, heavy weight, and sturdy construction. A lovely boomerang adorned with animals native to Australia! Size: 26" L x 2.125" W (66 cm x 5.4 cm)
