West/Central Africa, Cameroon, ca. late 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden shield of a tall, ovoid form bearing dozens of horizontal ribs across the obverse. Both the top and bottom of the shield are slightly rounded, and the concave verso has an integral wooden handle. White pigment across the front stands out nicely against the dark brown wood color. Size: 10.1" W x 47" H (25.7 cm x 119.4 cm)
