Ancient Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. late 1st millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery jar of sizable form bearing a flared foot, an apple-shaped body, and a broad rim. The exterior of the peach-hued vessel is decorated with intricate fineline motifs in red that create petals on the foot, curvilinear motifs on the stem, and radiating patterns on the body. A beautiful artifact from ancient Southeast Asia! Size: 8.75" W x 11.4" H (22.2 cm x 29 cm)

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to several areas of rim and foot, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions, nicks, and fading to original pigment commensurate with age, with earthen deposits in scattered areas, and a few stable hairline fissures to pigment layer of body. Nice remains of original pigment on body.
