Description:

Ancient Near East, Sassanian (Sasanian/Sasanid) Empire, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. A beautiful mold-blown opaque glass bottle with a slight concave base, a bulbous body, a rounded shoulder leading to a constricted neck, and a petite flared spout with a rounded rim. The vessel's defining characteristic is four circles of knobbed protrusions along the body. Thick areas of orange, golden, and white iridescence coat the majority of the vessel with some chipped areas revealing the pale green hue of the glass structure beneath. The knobs may represent a pine cone or perhaps a bunch of grapes, both rich iconographical symbols in the ancient world. A rare and beautiful example from the ancient Near East! Size: 1.875" W x 3.5" H (4.8 cm x 8.9 cm).
