Description:

Ancient Near East, early Byzantine Empire, ca. 5th to 7th century CE. A wonderful bronze polycandelon support chain with a six-armed suspension bail from which hang three lengthy chains. Each chain is comprised of dozens of individual links with a large enclosed crucifix as a midpoint. The three hooks have balustrade-style arms that gently curve downwards and back up again to form the suspension hooks from which a larger candle-holding structure would hang. Layers of lustrous dark-green and brown patina cover the majority of each element, making this a fine example from ancient Byzantium! Size: 2.5" W x 14.5" H (6.4 cm x 36.8 cm).
