Description:

Rome, Imperial period, ca. 1st Century BCE/CE. This is a pair of beautiful Roman hollow gold ball earrings. Each is a very thin wire hoop with three hollow spheres with very small raised decoration around their equators. The gold is 22K. Hollow spherical or hemispherical beads made of gold sheet and attached to hoop earrings were common throughout the Roman Empire; they have been found at Pompeii and are shown on mummy portraits. Many of these have also been found in archaeological contexts from Roman Britain. Size: 1/2 diameter (1.3 cm).
