Description:

Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine pair of high karat (tests at 24 karat) earrings comprised of gold hollow wire with square gold bezels set with dark green glass inlays. Jewelry that captures the ancients' appreciation for geometry. Square motifs measure .25" L x .25" W (0.6 cm x 0.6 cm); hoops measure ~ .5" in diameter (1.3 cm) Total weight: 3.2 grams

Since the Roman Empire was so vast with an extensive trade network along the Silk Road, the Romans had access to a wide variety of exotic materials and stylings garnered from across Europe and the Mediterranean, and Roman ladies wisely acquired a taste for elaborate jewelry like these beautiful earrings.
