Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Lima area, Ica culture, ca. 1000 CE. This colorful section of textile is comprised of tightly-woven fibers in crimson, brown, gold, and aqua tones. The composition includes two conjoined halves, each with seven distinct diagonal rows of undulating wave-shaped motifs with a row of golden waves separating each deep-hued line. Each half of the textile is outlined in a solid frame of golden fibers. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 14" L x 3.375" W (35.6 cm x 8.6 cm).

Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
