Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An iron spear head with a leaf shaped blade and a short tang. A prominent midrib runs the length of the spear from the top of the tang to the tip of the blade. The surface has developed a nice russet patina, but the double edged blade is still quite sharp! The tang would enable this blade to be tied or mounted on a pole to make it a lengthy weapon for fighting. Luristan culture consisted largely of semi-nomadic horseman that served as soldiers and mercenaries for neighboring civilizations. A fine spear head such as this example would be ideal for wielding while on horseback. Size: 12.25" L x 2.5" W (31.1 cm x 6.4 cm)141576
