Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A fabulous example of a classic double disc pommel short sword, made using the lost wax bronze casting technique. The blade is wide with a broad, flat midrib down the length ending at a U shaped guard. The handle is long and cylindrical with incised crosshatching lines and a pommel comprised of a large disc with a tubular section above it, topped with a smaller disc. A beautiful weapon that may have protected an elite member of the Luristan people and ultimately showed off the owner's status with the beautiful pommel. This undoubtably was a spectacular weapon, and after thousands of years, the blade has been well preserved and has developed a rich green patina with russet red areas! Size: 19.125" L x 1.75" W (48.6 cm x 4.4 cm)
