Description:

Ancient Near East, Early Islamic, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. Truly breathtaking - a cast and blown mosaic vessel comprised of canes of semi-translucent amber and opaque turquoise glass; the amber color is apparent when held to a bright light - otherwise it appears to be a dark blue due to earthen deposits within. Further imbuing the vessel with beauty are traces of silvery iridescence. The vessel presents an elegant form - its cylindrical body with rounded shoulders rising to a pinched then flaring neck with a smooth rim. Note how the mosaic canes were artfully marvered in a feathered pattern on the body that extends throughout the neck. A stunning work of glass art to be treasured for its impeccable form, striking hues, and sophisticated technique. Size: 1" diameter x 4.5" H (2.5 cm x 11.4 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
