Description:

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Late Cypriot Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1050 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown redware pottery spindle bottle with a circular base, an expanding piriform body with a rounded shoulder tapering to a narrow conical neck, an everted discoid rim, and an applied strap handle joining neck to shoulder. The highly-burnished exterior boasts an elegant, uncomplicated form, and the lustrous exterior surface makes this a desirable example of ancient Cypriot pottery! Size: 3.1" W x 9.9" H (7.9 cm x 25.1 cm).

For a stylistically-similar example with a slightly slimmer body, please see The British Museum, museum number 1897,0401.1193: http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?assetId=49383001&objectId=417041&partId=1
