Description:

China, Warring States Period, 475 to 221 BCE. This is a bronze hilt from a type of sword called a jian (dian), a double-edged straight sword. The hilt has a highly textured grip, probably for wrapping with leather or some other form of soft material. A hollow ovoid pommel tops it; the guard flows downward with twin quillions that flare slightly outwards. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.7" W x 6.75" H (4.3 cm x 17.1 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
