Description:

Ancient Central / Northern Europe, Celtic Iron Age, ca. 5th to 1st century BCE. An iron spear head with a large blade and socket. The blade it petaloid, with a pointed tip and prominent midrib that runs down three quarters of the blade, ending at the socket. The socketing shaft is cylindrical and ideal for hafting this spear onto a pole. The surface has developed a rich patina over the ages. The Celtic people developed superior ways of forging iron and the spread of iron work throughout Europe was largely due to the expansion of Celtic culture. An iron spearhead such as this piece would have been highly valued for its strength and long reach. A deadly weapon that could easily puncture an opponent's armor! Size: 16.25" L x 1.75" W (41.3 cm x 4.4 cm); 16" H (40.6 cm) on included custom stand.
