Description:

Pakistan/Afghanistan, Bactrian, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A gorgeous necklace comprised of sixty carnelian beads of various shapes (round, disc, ovoid, lozenge, tubular, and diamond) and a large central rock crystal seal carved with a depiction of a three-headed bust on the flat face. Just what this image symbolizes is intriguing - ancestor, living being, future progeny perhaps or more figuratively, past, present, and future? Regardless, three heads are better than one, but seriously, the translucent nature of the crystal as well as the fine carving technique make this seal quite impressive. What's more, the five dozen carnelian beads of brilliant orange and red hues compliment it beautifully. Size: 23" L (58.4 cm) + seal measuring 1" L x 1.25" W x 1.25" H (2.5 cm x 3.2 cm x 3.2 cm)

  • Condition: The decorative silver-tone beads around the neck are modern. Just a few small losses to about half a dozen of the carnelian beads. Expected wear and a few nicks to the crystal seal. Overall very good.
