Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolia, Southeastern Turkey, Early Bronze Age II, ca 2700 to 2300 BCE. A hand-carved marble idol that comes from the village of Kusura and is of a highly simplified anthropomorphic form. Often described as violin shaped the stone is very thin with a rounded head, long neck, and half circle body. Highly abstracted human carvings have been created by different pre-literate cultures, leaving little information on their usage for worship or burial. This is beautiful example of the desire to create a simplified form. Size: 7.25" L x 3.625" W (18.4 cm x 9.2 cm)
