Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Near East / Central Asia, Persia, Achaemenid to Parthian Empire, ca. 550 BCE to 224 CE. A pair of earrings or ornaments made from high quality gold 91% to 92% (equivalent to 21K+ to 22K). The upper parts are think sheets molded into repousse stylized feline animals that face inward toward each other- perhaps griffins with petite wings at their shoulders. Delicate loop-in-loop chain links dangle below with a flower shaped bezel attached - the repousse within the griffins above and center of the flower may have contained previous stones or jewels at one time. The griffin, half eagle and half lion, was a fierce symbol of divine power. Size: 3.25" L x 1.25" W (8.3 cm x 3.2 cm); gold quality: 91% to 92% (equivalent to 21K+ to 22K); weight: 7.8 grams
