Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit or possibly Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An endearing bichrome animal effigy vessel with a spout projecting from its back. The sweet zoomorphic being perches upon its diminuitive legs. Its cute face is delineated with large round eyes and a long pointy snout. Its bumpy skin or shell is further adorned with beige stripes. While the Colima puppy is perhaps the best known animal depicted by the ancients of West Mexico, the indigenous created sculptural renderings of many other critters, including this little guy whose species is somewhat difficult to decipher. Size: 5.5" L x 4.25" W x 4.75" H (14 cm x 10.8 cm x 12.1 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovock collection
