Description:

West Africa, Nigeria, Nupe culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A low stool carved from a single piece of wood, featuring a flat top supported by four tapered legs and curved braces. The seat is adorned with geometric motifs, rather than depictions of animals or figures, reflecting the Islamic influence on the majority of the Nupe people. Traditionally, this type of stool was presented by a husband to his wife. The wood is notably dense and heavy, possibly teak. Size: 14.75" L x 13" W x 9" H (37.5 cm x 33 cm x 22.9 cm)
