West Africa, Cameroon, perhaps Tikar culture, ca. 20th century CE. A collection of 3 standing pottery figures with enormous heads that are supported by stout legs with arms grasping the sides- these may be a highly stylized representation of pygmy house guardians. The faces are intensely staring upward with exaggerated features and crosshatched surfaces that denote scarification or tattoos. Ring handles on the verso and light rattling sound from hollow interior when shaken. Size: 5.5" L x 7" W x 6.5" H (14 cm x 17.8 cm x 16.5 cm)
