Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A sweet cast bronze dog, posed in a manner familiar to every dog owner - chin resting on the floor, paws out straight in front of the body, and tail curled around the back. The dog's eyes are open and the ears are flat against the head. The pointed ears recall one of the most famous dogs in antiquity - the Roman mosaic from Pompeii of a dog on a chain that warns, "CAVE CANEM" - Beware of Dog! This dog is a friendlier version, and reminds us of the humanity of the Romans, who are well documented as having loved their dogs. Size: 1.75" L x 0.9" W x 0.5" H (4.4 cm x 2.3 cm x 1.3 cm)
