Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A charming, hand-built pottery female figure with a knee-length skirt and a slender child clinging to her back. The figure stands atop delineated legs, holds her right arm behind her waist to support her child, and in her left hand holds a shallow plate filled with spherical items. Her calm visage is defined by puffy, almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, full lips, and spool-adorned ears, all beneath a thick, striated headwrap. Size: 2.75" W x 4.2" H (7 cm x 10.7 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Both heads and left arm of mother reattached, with chips and adhesive residue to break line of child's head and resurfacing to break lines of mother's arm and head. Nicks and abrasions to both figures, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
