Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A beautiful stamp seal bead, made from a creamy white near-translucent stone and pierced through laterally for suspension, bearing an incised stylized image of four ibexes or similar animals with a single head at the center. To the Achaemenids, ibexes symbolized virility and evoked the taming of the wild associated with the hunt. Size: 0.8" W x 0.8" H (2 cm x 2 cm)
