Description:

Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A finely preserved stamp seal depicting a pair of ibexes flanking a prominent central palm tree. Carved from mottled red-orange stone with creamy yellow inclusions, the ovoid stamp has a smooth topside and a suspension hole drilled lengthwise through the body. The abstract scene incised along the bottom features a pair of upturned ibexes with curved horns and stocky bodies shown with forelegs raised up just below the bottom fronds of a palm tree. An intriguing example of Achaemenid zoomorphic artistry! Size: 0.75" L x 0.55" W (1.9 cm x 1.4 cm)
