Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Neo-Babylonian period, ca. mid-1st millennium BCE. A stamp seal of a tapered columnar form that is carved from tan and brown stone with clear crystalline inclusions. The stamp face of the octagonal seal features an incised scene of a bearded, left-facing man holding a needle-form rod while standing in front of an altar adorned with a trio of slender spears. Above the scene is an incised sun or star suggestive of a god. A bow-drilled suspension hole is bored through the top peripheries so it could be worn on a necklace strand or a bracelet. Size: 0.875" W x 1.125" H (2.2 cm x 2.9 cm)
