Description:

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A forged-iron axe head with a stocky butt end, a circular socketing shaft with protruding points along the upper and lower peripheries, and a slightly curved blade head with an edge that still retains its sharpness. Axe heads like this example were likely used for utilitarian tasks like chopping wood, however they could certainly be employed as battle-ready weapons at a moment's notice. Size: 6.6" L x 1.6" W (16.8 cm x 4.1 cm)
