Lot 50A
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. This is a beautiful pair of hand-carved wooden dragon table legs or pedestals. The dragons have sinuous serpentine bodies that curl back upon themselves, and their tails rest just above their snarling heads. Surmounted on their backs are thick rods with a lotus flower flaring outward with a flat top that serves as the platform to rest vases upon, or as supports for a larger piece such as a tabletop. The bodies and faces of both dragons are intricately carved with scales, spines, and flowing manes. While snake-like, there are petite nubbin feet protruding near the tail and from under the mane. This matched pair has a dark and lustrous patina throughout and would be excellent display pieces to use as they were originally intended! Size of each (both are relatively similar): 18" L x 8.5" W x 19" H (45.7 cm x 21.6 cm x 48.3 cm); 21.5" H (54.6 cm) on included custom stand.

- Condition: One is slightly loose on the stand and should be tightened before using. Drilled holes in top of lotus surface from prior use as table legs. Old chips and surface abrasions on both. New chip to top of lotus surface on one. Both dragons are intact with great details. Lustrous smooth patina throughout both.
