Description:

Central Europe, Langobardic, Migration Period, ca. 6th to 10th century CE. A collection of 3 stunning belt fittings made from 80.8% to 91.9% silver and 88.7% to 91.2% gold! The silver creates a thick, escutcheon-shaped frame for the gold sheet set and slightly recessed in the center, and delicate granulated spheres dot the surface in swirling curvilinear motifs. The open versos reveal each hammered gold panel, and remains of the rivet attachments are still present. These undoubtedly adorned a belt of someone with the monetary means to acquire such precious material and craftsmanship. Size of each (all are relatively similar): 0.8" L x 0.65" W (2 cm x 1.7 cm); silver quality: 80.8% to 91.9%; gold quality: 88.7% to 91.2%; total weight: 10.9 grams
