Description:

Scandinavia, Finland & Norway & United States, Native American and /or non-native, ca. late 19th to 20th century CE. A collection of 4 antique and vintage knives. A crooked knife with a rawhide cord and curved wood handle, possibly Native American made; knife blades were often repurposed from European tools such as iron razors or farrier files, and weapons. This blade has a crosshatched pattern on the surface that likely came from a rasp file. The leather sheath with a chape tip has a walrus ivory handle knife and the blade is stamped "BLIKSTAD / THRONDHJEM," a traditional Norwegian style of an all-purpose blet belt knife known as a tolle. The Finnish knife with burl handle and the original black sheath is an older J. Marttiini Ilves style, the name etched on the blade. Finally, an American Russell Green River knife has an etched (not stamped) maker mark on the blade - a later model before the famous company went out of business in the 1980s. Size of Green River knife: 10.25" L x 1.25" W (26 cm x 3.2 cm) blade only: 6" L x 1.25" W (15.2 cm x 3.2 cm)
