Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 3000 to 2500 BCE; Ancient Near East, Sassanian, ca. 224 to 651 CE. A lovely gathering of 4 ancient stamps. Boasting a vibrant green patina, the first is a square bronze cachet from Bactria displaying a diamond pattern with negative crosses and a loop handle on its verso. The remaining 3 are all Sassanian presenting O type seals with central piercings for suspension. Of these, 2 are carved from a translucent yellow chalcedony: 1 has a bare face and the other is incised with a minimalistic flower, possibly a rose. The third Sassanian seal is made from bronze and displays an incised, indecipherable image. Size of largest: 1.25" L x 1.125" W (3.2 cm x 2.9 cm)

  • Condition: Bactrian stamp has expected surface wear and lovely patina. Sassanian stamps have surface wear to faces, making them very difficult to decipher.
