Central/South Asia, Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan, Gandharan Empire, ca. 3rd to 5th century CE. A nice gathering of 3 hand-built pottery heads depicting the faces of attractive individuals. The first head resembles Buddha with elongated earlobes, a central urna, and a wavy coiffure. The second head depicts a full-faced individual with puffy cheeks and chin, heavy eyelids, and low-set eyebrows beneath the wavy, knot-topped coiffure. The largest face exhibits softened features like a flush nose and a partial coiffure, though the eyes and lips are still rather well-defined. Size of largest: 2.4" W x 2.75" H (6.1 cm x 7 cm); 4.7" H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.
