Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 400 to 800 CE. An ensemble of 3 copper repousse attachments: 2 discs displaying the faces of warriors and a stylized hand or paw. The faces are each comprised of rectangular eyes, a broad nose, and a large, open mouth exposing sharp, gritted teeth flanked by prominent nasolabial folds. Both are crowned by a helmet resembling the visage of a jaguar with pointed ears and a round snout. Alternatively, the hand or paw contains 36.79% silver in addition to copper and features a convex body with 5 short fingers or toes, each with a recess nailbed or claw. Size of largest (all are similar in size): 3.5" W (8.9 cm)
