Description:

**First Time At Auction**

New World, present day Alaska, and Central Asia, Siberia, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 100,000 to 20,000 years old. Three cross sections of fossilized teeth from the prehistoric woolly mammoth. Each is sliced and polished to reveal the multicolored inner layers of the tooth that have nice striations, which otherwise would be hidden from view. These are likely part of a molar and the verso displays the rough outer ridges of the enamel. The original chemicals of the teeth were replaced during the fossilization process with quartz (silica) and other minerals that have developed lovely hues of beige, white, brown, and black. Included is a tuft of fur that has been preserved by the icy climate in which these mammoths once thrived. An interesting group that further helps visualize these majestic prehistoric beasts. Size smallest: 2" L x 1.25" W (5.1 cm x 3.2 cm); thin slab: .5" L x 3.375" W (1.3 cm x 8.6 cm)
