Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, 2nd century CE. Very fine example of a mold-made pottery oil lamp. A small loop handle extends from the bowl and a small rounded spout juts out opposite it. Around the discus is a repeating scroll design, while inside the discus is a very clear design of Mars. He wears a helmet with feathered plume, cloak tied at neck and holds unknown object in his extended right hand. Remains of original brown pigment, three concentric rings at base. Size: 4.875" L x 3.5" W x 2" H (12.4 cm x 8.9 cm x 5.1 cm)
