Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni, ca. late 20th century CE. A hand-carved and vibrantly painted wood Cholawitze or fire kachina doll with yarn tassels. The delineated legs are surmounted on an integral base, the felted underside is signed and dated by the artist in nearly illegible ink. The black surface is stippled with red, teal, yellow, and white spots which symbolize kernels of corn. Size: 2" W x 4.5" H (5.1 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
