North America, United States, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A collection of 3 wooden decoy ducks, all nicely carved and painted in realistic colors. The oldest is black with a blue bill, and the underside is inlaid with a steel weight and leather piece. The next is an aptly named redhead duck with the distinctive gray-blue beak with black markings, the underside has a U-shaped lead weight. The last duck is wood with large, glass / resin eyes. The underside has holes drilled additional weights. A great collection for display - each duck has weathering commensurate with use. Size: 15" L x 5.5" W x 8.5" H (38.1 cm x 14 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

  • Condition: Wear and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Heavy wear to oldest black duck, chipping and fading to pigments. Stable pressure fissures, head repaired and reattached. Head reattached on redhead duck, and swivels. Head repaired and reattached on pink head duck, stable fissure and break lines.
