North America, Western United States, ca. early to mid-20th century. A hand-carved piece of Americana folk art, a wood stagecoach with 4 horses, a driver and passenger. While stylized and simplistic, the attention to details in excellent - both doors to the carriage open on brass hinges, the rear luggage boot opens, the wheels are lined with a tin sheet, and the horses tacked up with leather reins and chains. The horses and coach are mounted to a rectangular base via leather straps and wood poles. Size: 33" L x 8" W x 13" H (83.8 cm x 20.3 cm x 33 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

  • Condition: Losses to chain on one horse and tearing to leather rein. Tin wheel panels coming loose. Arms of coach driver reattached with adhesive. Some chips and nicks to high pointed areas and fraying to roof cords. Overall good condition.
