Description:

Oceania, Trobriand Islands, Massim peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful and early example of a dance club with a thick handle, a semicircular pommel bulb, one projecting shoulder prong, and a tapering body. The flattened body terminates with a raised rectangular panel with seven drilled suspension holes meant to hold small ornamentation when used in dance ceremonies. Lustrous espresso-hued patina envelops the entire carving and makes this an attractive example from the Trobriand Islands! Size: 3.75" W x 30.25" H (9.5 cm x 76.8 cm).
