Description:

South America, Upper/Western Amazon Basin, Ucayali River, Peru, Shipibo-Konibo (also Shipibo-Conibo) people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A white-beaded belt known as chinesheti or sometimes morochenesheti with dozens of strands that altogether contain thousands of the tiny opaque white glass seed beads attached to cotton textile ties at the end. The Shipibo people adorn themselves with beadwork, and women wear belts like these for their weddings. The quantity of strings shows off her wealth - and this example is quite heavy with the number of beads! Size: 43.5" L (110.5 cm)
