Pre-Columbian, Peru, Upper / Western Amazon Basin, Ucayali River, Shipibo culture, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of broad form with a planar foot, a gently tapered body, and a thick rim surrounding the red-painted basin. Across the beige-hued exterior ground is an elaborate series of black bands that form broad linear and geometric motifs, and 4 zigzagging bands are filled with red pigment to add a splash of color. Size: 9.125" Diameter x 3.375" H (23.2 cm x 8.6 cm)
