Description:

Native American, United States, central and southern plains, Plains Indians, ca. early 20th century CE. A nice club with a tapered triangular stone beater bearing a vertical edge on one end and a conical beater on the other. The stone is secured within the top of the wooden handle body with thin strips of bark and sinew, and the handle is reinforced near the bottom with additional sinew strands. The bottom of the handle is split to form the mouth of an abstract creature exhibiting two inlaid turquoise 'eyes.' Size: 22.5" L x 6.75" W (57.2 cm x 17.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to midsection of handle, with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to stone beater and handle, several stable fissures along handle, and desiccation to bark, sinew, and wood commensurate with age. Nice patina throughout.
