A fine example of a kamana, a ceramic, incised and painted conical bowl used to serve sago, the starchy core of the sago palm that is a major food staple for the Sawos people and their neighbors in the Middle Sepik region. This example is decorated with abstract leaf-like motifs in orangey-red and white clay-based pigments. Size: 9.5" W x 4.75" H (24.1 cm x 12.1 cm)
